TITLE: Quartz Biosensors - Integrating Transducers, Biomaterials, and Fluidics

SPEAKER: Dr. Srinivas Tadigadapa, Professor and Chair, Northeastern University, Boston

ABSTRACT: In this talk we will explore the basic functional blocks of microscale biosensors and the challenges and solutions in integrating fluidics, biomaterials, and transducers for achieving optimal sensitivity, selectivity, and stability. As we will see in this presentation in some cases it may be more effective to heterogeneously integrate various components rather than attempt a monolithic solution to the problem. Specifically, this talk will explore chip scale chromatography, thermal, and gravimetric transduction for biosensing solutions.

BIO: Srinivas Tadigadapa is the Professor and Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Northeastern University since 2018. Prior to that he was Professor in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering Departments at the Pennsylvania State University for 18 years. He obtained his Ph.D. from Cambridge University, UK in 1994. 1996-2000 he was Vice President of Manufacturing at Integrated Sensing Systems Inc., Michigan. His current research interests include integrated heterogeneous materials based microsystems, bio and chemical sensors, and exploring electric and thermal transport at the micro-nano interfaces. He has been awarded the Alexander von Humboldt fellowship in Germany and the Walton Fellowship by the Science Foundation of Ireland. He is a life fellow of the Cambridge Philosophical Society, Fellow of the Institute of Physics, London, and the IEEE.
