ECE Faculty Daniel Burbano Receives NSF CAREER Award for Research on Bio-Inspired Autonomy

ECE Assistant Professor Daniel Burbano Lombana has been awarded a five-year, $644,498 NSF CAREER Award for the project “Understanding and Analyzing the Feedback Principles Underlying Visuomotor Control Dynamics in Fish Schools.” The research integrates dynamical systems and control theory, data-driven modeling, and experimental biology to reveal how visuomotor feedback governs collective fish behavior and to translate those principles into low-power, communication-efficient autonomous control systems. The effort also includes a comprehensive education and outreach component to broaden participation in STEM, including K-12 engagement and curricular innovations in systems and control.
