Dr. Weinan Wang, a recent Ph.D. graduate of Prof. Laleh Najafizadeh, received the highly competitive Rutgers School of Graduate Studies Outstanding Doctoral Student Award.
The SGS Outstanding Doctoral Student Award is a university-wide honor that recognizes excellence in doctoral research and scholarship across all disciplines, with only four awardees selected across Rutgers.
Weinan had an outstanding doctoral journey. For his dissertation work, he published 14 first-author peer-reviewed papers in major journals and conferences while maintaining a 4.0 GPA, contributed to multiple patent applications, developed new algorithms for blood pressure monitoring, and collaborated on other projects in Laleh's lab. He also created PulseDB, a public dataset now widely used by researchers working on various aspects of AI-enabled cardiovascular monitoring (with more than 33,000 article views to date).
The SGS award ceremony was held on May 14 at the Rutgers Club.
Weinan also received the SoE inaugural Outstanding Graduate Student Award in the Ph.D. category and was celebrated in the SoE convocation on May 15.
Congratulations to Laleh and Weinan!
