Charles R. Kalmanek

Charles R. Kalmanek is a former head of AT&T Labs Research. Through his extensive career, Kalmanek managed research in algorithms and optimization, networking, optical and wireless systems, speech and natural language understanding, and multimedia services. His labs also supported organizations throughout AT&T as a Center of Excellence for network design and performance analysis.
Kalmanek joined AT&T Bell Labs in 1980. He has extensive experience in network architecture, protocols, and distributed systems with research background spanning IP network management, access network architectures, wireless networks, voice over IP, multimedia streaming, content distribution networks, storage networks, as well as packet switch and host interface design.
Kalmanek received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University, and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Columbia University and New York University respectively. He is a recipient of AT&T’s Strategic Patent and Strategic Standards Awards and a former co-chair of the IEEE Internet Technical Committee.
