ECE Team Wins 2017 WONS Best Paper Award

Electrical and computer engineering associate professor Dario Pompili’s team of graduate student researchers won the Best Paper Award at the 2017 IEEE/IFIP Wireless On-demand Network Systems and Services Conference (WONS) in February.

Their paper, entitled “Collaborative Multi-bitrate Video Caching and Processing in Mobile-Edge Computing Networks,” was coauthored by ECE graduate students Tuyen Tran, Parul Pandey, and Abolfazl Hajisami, alongside Pompili.

The team’s research examined the possibility of a collaborative joint caching and processing strategy for on-demand video streaming in Mobile-Edge Computing (MEC) networks. They believe that their design, which aims to enhance the widely-used Adaptive BitRate (ABR) streaming technology, is the first of its nature.

The 13th annual WONS Conference, held in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, encouraged high-quality research regarding all aspects of wireless on-demand networks and systems. The forum addressed challenges that ranged from providing robust services in highly dynamic environments to developing lightweight algorithms for adaptation and self-organization.
