Title: IoT Data Marketplaces for Smart Cities

Speaker: Dr. Bhaskar Krishnamachari Director, Center for Cyber-Physical Systems and the Internet of Things, Professor, Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical Engineering Viterbi School of Engineering, University of Southern California

Abstract: One of the ways in which a city can become smarter is to grow a local economy around the sharing of data from IoT devices and other open data that can be used in applications to improve the lives of its citizens. I will motivate and describe one such effort to build a real time IoT data marketplace for smart cities and communities: the I3 project, led by USC in collaboration with the City of LA and several companies. I will discuss various aspects of the system architecture along with open research problems. I will also talk about some of our ongoing research into decentralized data marketplaces for IoT utilizing blockchain technology.
