Photonic crystals: superprism based devices, negative refraction, photonic crystal surface effect, slow-light photonic crystal waveguides and devices (e.g. modulators), photonic crystal fibers

Silicon nanophotonics: modulators, light emitting devices/lasers, integration and packaging

Nanoimprint and molding

Plasmonics and metamaterials

Optical interconnects

Fiber optics: optical communications devices (esp. for wavelength-division multiplexing)

Polymer guided-wave photonics (polymer planar lightwave circuits)

Others: laser beam steering, liquid crystals, phased array antennas, ferroelectric thin films
