ECE Associate Professor Mehdi Javanmard is the co-recipient with Rutgers MAE researchers of an award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics (RADx-Rad) program under the guidance of Rutgers HealthAdvance Fund™ for the project "A rapid breathalyzer diagnostics platform for COVID-19". This is a two-year project awarded at $443,000.

ECE Associate Professor Mehdi Javanmard is the co-PI of an award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH-NIAID R21) for the project "Non-invasive approaches to mosquito-borne pathogen surveillance using excreta." Dr. Dana Price from Rutgers Plant Biology and Pathology is the PI on this two-year project awarded at $354,000.

Tejashri Kuber has been selected as the recipient of the IEEE Communications Society Phoenix ISS Award for academic year 2020-2021. The IEEE Communications Society Phoenix ISS Award was established to encourage engineering student to participate in professional activities. Awards are to be given to full-time or part-time students to cover expenses for students to attend the International Switching Symposium, or other IEEE Communications Society Conferences. ECE Assistant Professor Umer Hassan is the recipient of an award from National Science Foundation (NSF) for the project “An Electronic-Sensing & Magnetic-Modulation (ESMM) Biosensor for Phagocytosis Quantification for Personalized Stratification in Pathogenic Infections”. This is a three-year project awarded at $360,000.

On Tuesday February 23rd, four ECE students described their internship experience at Interns Present. The event was held as part of the National Engineers Week celebration February 21 through February 27. Interns Present was sponsored by the Lockheed Martin Corporation, the world's largest defense contractor. After the Interns Present forum there was also a networking session. The Interns Present participants were Kinjal Patel, Hari Gunachandran, Atmika Ponnusamy, and Shivangi Rohilla.  Their presentations and bios are below.

Vahideh Vakil was selected to present her research at the 2021 Johnson & Johnson Engineering Showcase. The focus of this annual event is on the application of technology to improve human health, and the selection criteria include novelty, capability for implementation and impact to humanity. Vahideh’s poster, prepared under supervision of Professor Wade Trappe, is titled “Engineering Dosage Strategy to Optimally Combat Drug Resistance in Cancer Treatment”.
