Fall 1998
CS 198:671 - Index #: 26283 Section #: 01
ECE 332:678 - Index #: 05746 Section #: 01
Course Overview
- COURSE OBJECTIVE:
The objective of the advanced seminar course is to inverstigate the
state-of-the-art in parallel and distributed computing reseach.
This course is will be a companion course to ECE 566 (Parallel and
Distributed Computing Technologies) and CS 528 (Parallel Numerical
Computing). The emphasis this year will be on programming models
and tools for parallel, cluster and metacomputing environments.

- CLASS MEETING TIME AND PLACE:
Thursday, 1:00 - 4:00 PM in Hill 254.
- COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course will investigate current reseach in parallel and distributed
computing including systems, architectures, programming models,
languages and software tools. Topics covered include parallelization
and distribution models; parallel architectures; cluster and networked
meta-computing systems; parallel/distributed programming;
applications; and performance analysis.
The course will require independent research, presentation and
completion of a programming project that will involve problem
solving on a parallel and/or networked computing system.
- RESTRICTIONS:
Only students that have taken either 332:566 or 198:528 can register
for this seminar. A maximum of 10 students will be allowed to register.
- READINGS:
The course will be primarily based on classic and recent reasearch
papers from technical journals and conference proceedings.
